ClearFox® Nature is an innovative small wastewater treatment plant that uses biofilm and requires no electricity. It was developed specifically for households and small businesses.
It is the only electricity-free small wastewater treatment plant on the market that requires no spare parts or replacement filter media throughout its service life. ClearFox® Nature treats wastewater using only natural aeration and naturally occurring bacteria.
With no electrical components, it requires very little maintenance, is environmentally friendly and has a long service life. More than 20,000 systems have been installed in 50 countries. The system is CE tested in accordance with EN 12566-3.

Treatment process
1. Filling and settling phase
The wastewater first flows into a preliminary chamber, which is divided into a sludge tank and a buffer tank. Heavy solids and large particles settle at the bottom of the sludge tank. A baffle prevents these solids from entering the biological reactor. The buffer tank balances the incoming wastewater flow so that peak flows do not disrupt the treatment process.
2. Transfer to the biological reactor
A floating flow control flap regulates the flow of wastewater into the biological reactor. As the water level in the buffer tank rises with incoming wastewater, the flap also rises, allowing wastewater to enter the reactor. The flap limits the flow to a set rate, so wastewater enters the biological reactor continuously and evenly. This supports stable and efficient biological treatment.
3. Wastewater distribution
From the buffer tank, the wastewater flows onto a mechanical tipping device. It fills continuously until the increasing weight causes it to tip to one side. This distributes the wastewater evenly across the perforated distribution boxes. All parts of the flow control and distribution system are made from durable, corrosion resistant HDPE. The perforated box distributes the wastewater evenly into the biological reactor below. This ensures stable operation without overloading and consistent wastewater quality.
4. Wastewater treatment
Treatment takes place in the biological reactor. The reactor contains various materials on which microorganisms present in the wastewater grow. These microorganisms multiply and break down pollutants through respiration, without the need for chemicals or additives. The reactor is designed so that wastewater flows slowly through the layers of media. In this way, the small wastewater treatment plant achieves complete treatment of the wastewater. The specialised media consist of durable plastic fibres and fixed bed material, both of which provide a large surface area for bacterial growth. All materials are designed to support the growth of microorganisms while providing durability and reliable treatment performance.
5. Discharge of treated wastewater
The treated wastewater collects at the bottom of the plant and flows out. Through aerobic sludge stabilisation, the plant does not break down secondary sludge. This removes the need for the regular pumping required with septic tanks and other conventional treatment systems. The treated wastewater is suitable for irrigation, infiltration into the ground or direct discharge into a watercourse. ClearFox® Nature achieves a COD of 88 mg/l and a BOD₅ of 16 mg/l. These results have been certified by independent testing bodies. ClearFox® Nature is certified in accordance with EN 12566-3 and holds numerous regional approvals in other countries.
6. Aeration
Air is essential to aerobic wastewater treatment. Microorganisms need oxygen to break down pollutants and carbon. ClearFox® Nature is aerated naturally through small ventilation openings in the system. The resulting chimney effect allows air to circulate. The design of ClearFox® Nature prevents unpleasant odours during this natural aeration process.
What happens after I place my order?
Once we receive your order, you will receive an order receipt by email. We will then send you a separate order confirmation with a delivery date. Before delivery, you will receive an advance delivery notice. Delivery is to the kerbside without unloading. Suitable equipment for unloading must be provided on site.
Which optional extras are essential?
A riser is essential to extend the tank's inspection opening to ground level.
The riser size you need depends on the installation depth. Ask your installer to calculate how far below ground level the wastewater pipe will be at the planned installation site. The riser size you order should match this depth. This gives you slightly more riser height than needed as a precaution, and the riser can easily be cut down to ground level after installation.
Who installs my system?
The systems are easy to install. Installation can be carried out by a specialist wastewater treatment company, a local construction company or even as a DIY project. However, please check with your local building authority whether any specific installation requirements apply.
What backfill material is needed around the tank?
This depends on the ground conditions, soil type and whether the groundwater level is high. The backfill material may range from sand to concrete. A qualified professional should assess the ground conditions and choose a suitable installation method and backfill material.
Is the system noisy?
No. The small, almost silent air pump is housed underground.
Does the system produce any odours?
No. However, it is important to ensure that the wastewater pipes are properly ventilated in accordance with the applicable building regulations.
How often does the system need to be emptied?
This depends on occupancy and the type of wastewater entering the system. Typically, the interval between emptying is more than one year.
Who empties the tank?
A licensed waste disposal company can provide this service.
Can the system handle low load conditions?
Yes. A low load, for example during a holiday, does not affect the system's operation.
Is remote monitoring available?
Yes. With an optional GSM module, you can monitor the system around the clock from anywhere in the world.
